Asus Crosshair Hero VII wifi mobo
AMD Ryzen 2700x, stock clocks
16 GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL 15, stock clocks
Sapphire Nitro+ Rx580 GPU
AData SX8200 512GB M.2 NVME, a few misc other HDDs in there for some game data
Behringer UMC202HD USB audio interface/192kHz 24-bit DAC
Edifier s2000PRO studio monitors
JBL 260P 12" powered subwoofer
JVC HA-MR60x headphones
x2 HP 27q 2560x1440p FreeSync displays

4g lte internet shared through my router, which is a significant upgrade over dsl, although it's a blessing and a curse that there is a GNAT...cannot tunnel/forward external connections in.

All running on Arch Linux, of course. :)

I would go with Gen2 AMD Ryzon system. You will need Motherboard CPU RAM and a good SSD

Yes, a gen 2 Ryzen mobo, cpu, and RAM will run you around $250-$400, depending on what you get. A decent discrete GPU (RX570+, or 5500xt+) can be had for around $150-$200. An SSD around $50-$80, unless you go really high end. Make sure you have at least a 500 watt power supply if you go discrete graphics. The embedded graphics in the G series Ryzen are actually pretty decent, and will play games like MOHAA without breaking a sweat.

Intel and nvidia will cost a lot more, and I just don't see the value compared to AMD right now.
